9 am and 2 pm Whale Watches - Leah
We also got to see some of the other obstacles these whales face on a daily bases, like high flyers and kite flying fishing techniques.Division was also having a grand old time of giving us great looks at the bathroom humor of a whale, and Barb was showing us how to roll and flipperslap like a whale. There is a great sequence of shots I have of the whale rolling lifting the flipper out of the water and slapping it back down.
We then also saw Ventisca again and Blackhole. The same crew from the morning but slightly different behaviors. We had quite the day off shore on Saturday. We got to see lot's of feeding from many whales, and there were ridiculous amounts of bait at the surface. We got to see Etch-a-sketch, Ventisca, Blackhole, Barb, and Division.
During the trip we found a humpback, named Etch-a-sketch, with monofilament fishing line caught on the left side of her fluke. This occurs far to often in a marine environment because there is far to much space that these whales can travel through and they can't necessarily maneuver around such hidden obstacles. We did what we could to inform the Disentanglement network about the sighting, and we thank our Captain Johnny Dennen for staying with the whale until we got adequate data to make sure the animal will be documented appropriately.
