12 pm Trip:
-->
The 12:00pm whale watch on September 25th was
very eventful! We started off the
trip with a quick glance at a minke whale charging through the water. After moving further off shore we came
upon six humpback whales. These
six humpback whales were surface feeding and traveling together and there were even
more whales off in the distance.
Aswan, Pleats, Evolution, Ventisca and two unknown whales
were working together and using bubble net feeding techniques to capture
fish. About every two minutes these
six humpbacks would rise to the surface with their mouths open and then proceed
to strain the salt water out of their baleen plates at the surface.
With the feeding humpback whales we had a number of pelagic
bird species. We had greater,
sooty, and manx shearwaters, herring gulls, common tern, and northern gannets.
